Who We Are

Chipata District Farmers' Association (CDFA) is a membership based, independent and democratically organized association founded by and for the farmers of Chipata District. CDFA was officially incorporated and registered with the registrar of societies in 2005 as an independent District Farmers Association with the mandate of protecting and empowering small-scale farmers.

CDFA represents and is represented in all 8 agricultural blocks and 57 camps. Central, Western, Eastern, Southern, Chanje, Chiparamba, Chankhadze, Chitandika.

CDFA is an affiliate member of Zambia National Farmers Union (ZNFU)

Our History

The origins of CDFA can be traced back to the early 19th century when the settler farmers living in Chipata district came together to form a farmers union, aimed at unifying their voices to better address their common concerns of tobacco trading. This was in 1905. Before independence the union was called Rhodesia National Farmers Union. After Independence the name changed to Commercial Farmers’ Bureau but by 1992 the name had become misleading since even small scale farmers were joining and enjoying the same benefits. The bureau later became the Zambia National Farmers Union {ZNFU} to which CDFA is an affiliate.

Our Future

The CDFA Strategic Plan sets out the framework to guide the association's work over the next five year period from 2011 - 2015.
